I know I wasn't around much last week, but that's because I'm getting ready for my first-ever bookstore signing/reading, but also because my husband was attacked by a dog.

First--he's okay. He was bitten, but not too severely, and we're still waiting for the quarantine period to pass before we'll find out if he has to get rabies shots or not. (They did manage to catch the dog, and I'm glad about that, and not just because my husband doesn't automatiacally have to undergo the rabies shot series--I'm thankful no one else will be bitten)

Having all this happen has made both of us feel all the more strongly about one thing, and that's this:

If you're going to get a pet of any kind, dog, cat, whatever--for God's sake, treat it with kindness. The dog that bit my husband had been left behind by its owners, who had moved away and LEFT THE DOG TO DIE.

That's right. The dog that bit my husband was starving and scared, and escaped from the yard it had been left in with no food or water, no shelter. Nothing. It had just been left to die a slow, painful death.

I try to keep this blog pretty low-key, but I'm appalled by how some people treat animals. Pets aren't accesssories or 'dumb animals' that don't matter.

All living things matter. Period.

It's horrible that people can be so heartless! It breaks my heart to see animals hurt!

It is *truly* terrible, and I hate that people can be so cruel to animals.
