I'm thankful for YOU! But not turnips.

Monday, November 24, 2008

Well, since it's Thanksgiving here in the States this week, I've been thinking about what I'm most thankful for--and that's YOU!

So I'm giving away some books (of course!) but this time--some of the books aren't even out yet, so you could get a sneak peek!!

The books I'm giving away are: Audrey, Wait by Robin Benway, Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, Crowned by Julie Linker (this is an ARC of a book that's coming out this week!), and Pure by Terra Elan McVoy, another ARC of a book which won't be in stores until next April!!

For your chance to win, all you have to do is this:

Tell me about your LEAST favorite holiday food. I know you have one, and I've been thinking about mine because I don't want to see it this year!

My least favorite holiday food is mashed turnips. Especially when they're served in place of mashed potatoes. Turnips are not potatoes, and mashed turnips--well, let's just say if you ate them thinking they were mashed potatoes--you might not be super thrilled. As I was, one holiday meal long ago...

Anyway! Tell me all about your LEAST favorite holiday food by midnight this Friday, November 28th. I'll then pick four winners at random and each of those four people will get a book! You can only enter once, but you can enter regardless of where you live (I will send books overseas), of if you've won something from me before.

Also! Congrats to last week's winners: Mitzy, Carolina, Danielle, and Meredith!

My least favorite holiday food is beets. They're red and ooky and yick. Also, they stain everything else red.

Happy Thanksgiving, Elizabeth!

My least favorite holiday food is eggnog. It just tastes sour to me, with out without the alcohol. Luckily it doesn't usually make an appearance until after Thanksgiving. :)

My most detested food comes with a story! When I was a wee thing, we were preparing to eat dinner and there was a tiny bowl of something on the table. I asked my father what it was and (because he was a jerk! AUUUGH) he said, "it's the part of the turkey that's the dessert". I was like, YES, DESSERT TURKEY, because I didn't like regular turkey unless it was sliced and unrecognizable as a floppy bird. I took a spoon, had a huge bite and PART OF ME DIED INSIDE.

Never eat a spoon full of giblets! On the plus side, this event turned me into a skeptic who makes people sign forms in triplicate assuring me a certain food is a certain food before I'll go anywhere near it.

Auuugh, the memories. Honestly, doesn't the fact that they come in a little baggie suggest you're not supposed to cook them and put them on the table! Oh, my tongue, which waters just thinking about it.

My least favorite holiday food is eggnog. I just can't stand the thought of chugging down egg.
It just makes me think about how slimy the drink will go down my throat. Then, I get freaked out and can't drink it.
Yup, I really hate that eggnog
because it's just too gross for me to imagine drinking.

My least favorite holiday food is lima beans. I'm not even sure they should be considered a viable food option and if they are definitely not for the holidays, they just can't stand up to the pressure of all the other amazing foods on the table.

My least favorite holiday food is stuffing. I feel like I'm eating those chunks that form in spoiled milk ,for some reason. So, every holiday I do my best to avoid it.

Hi Elizabeth! :-)

My least favourite holiday food is pineapple tarts (we eat it during chinese new year) Or rather, the pineapple thing that's on the top of the tart.

I think it's really yucky and eww. It doesn't even taste like pineapple. Furthermore, it's sour and just spoils the taste of the tart (I love pastries).

My parents force me to eat it because it's usually offered by relatives when we go around visiting. That makes me hate it even more.

Have a nice thanksgiving! :-)

p.s do I have to give you my email?

For me, it's yams. Orange, mushy, bland, and squishy, they always make an appearance on our Thanksgiving table. I never ask people to bring them, but once we sit down, there they are. Whether smothered in marshmallows, butter, or brown sugar, they are still the same: orange, mushy, bland, and squishy.

I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year- and yams are not on the menu. I'll let you know if , once again, they manage to make it to our table.

Happy Thanksgiving Elizabeth.

My least favorite food are cranberries. My Dad insists on buying five cans each year but no one ever eats them besides him. We usually end up throwing the leftovers away which is kind of bad. Anyways, I just really hate the way they taste. However, my Dad just bought four cans of it yesterday and I'll probably be forced to eat at least a spoonful. :(

i'm a vegetarian, so of course i'm going to rebel against it, but i'm the only vegetarian in my family, so i just have to avoid it.
the other one i've always hated is beets, because they're red and slimy. the taste just makes me feel sick.
i've wanted to read audrey, wait for a while, but all the books still sound awesome too!

My least favorite holiday food is cranberry sauce. You know, the kind that you have to poke with a fork and jiggle like a mad woman to get it to plop out. Then, the juices flow and the gelatinous mold oooozes until movemnet finally subsides after 20 seconds of relapse.

Yeahhh, disgusting.

Happy Thanksgiving (:

My least favorite holdiday food is turkey, since I am a vegetarian. But not a pure vegan either. However, my family doesn't really celebrate holidays for some reason.. so I guess that may a reason why I haven't really tried any of the foods that are associated with holidays like turkey and thanksgiving or even egg nog and christmas(i think,?)
Happy Holidays!

Least favorite holiday food: I can't even make myself eat canned (jellied) cranberry sauce or beets. And any cranberry sauce ruins the other food if it touches it!

Happy Thanksgiving!

About Last Week's Contest: I thought that the contest winners were going to be picked based on what they wrote for a change so I wasted 15-30 minutes writing an explanation of why I badly wanted a certain book. Please make this clear if you run similar contests in the future. I don't really get the point of writing our reasons for wanting a book unless they were relevent to the contest somehow.
