holiday cheer: win a copy of FADE before it's in stores!!
Wednesday, December 17, 2008
This week, I've got a special holiday treat for you!
I've got an ARC of Lisa McMann's Fade, the fantastic sequel to her equally fabulous first novel, Wake--and I'm giving it away!
For your chance to win, just leave me a comment telling me what's your favorite part of the holidays. Mine is always hoping that it will snow....
I'll take comments through this Friday, December 19th, and then I'll pick one person at random and that person will win the ARC of Fade! You can only enter this contest once, but you can enter if you live overseas and/or if you've won anything from me before. (And yes, if you're reading this on Facebook, of course you can enter!)
I also have a couple of links to share:
Elizabeth Bear talks about some very common writing advice and why you shouldn't assume it's right for you, or, as she puts it, Here is some writing advice I will henceforth be ignoring -- As usual, interesting stuff in the comments too.
Another article about the problems facing publishing, written by agent Richard Curtis--it says some (by now) familiar things but keep reading until the end, when--if you're like me--you'll say "Oh. OH." about a certain date.

My favorite part of the holidays is... the presents, but the food is a strong second!
Personally, I don't like the cold weather and snow. My family does a lot of work outside and chores at night so snow isn't very helpful. :(
PS. I am at this moment reading Wake. I just received it in the mail from Lisa McMann yesterday as a prize on her HUGE contest. Its signed!! :)
Oh, I LOVED Wake!
My favorite part of the holidays is trying to match books to people as gifts. It takes a lot of work to do it well, but it's very rewarding when it works out.
My favorite part of the holidays is getting time off from work. I love having a day off whenever I can!

My favorite part of the holidays is watching the faces of my family as they open presents. We take ages to open them as we sit in a circle and open one present at a time.

My favorite part of the holidays are all the lights. I love driving at night and seeing people's homes and trees decorated with lights in all sorts of creative ways!

My favorite part of the holidays is the feeling, I think. Everyone's so much nicer to each other, so even if I don't celebrate the holiday, I still love Christmas.
Happy Holidays, whatever they may be!

My favorite part of Christmas is seeing all the decorations people put up outside. Also, I love getting presents.
My favorite part of the holidays is snowy evenings. I absolutely love to walk in the snow or sit at a window with a hot mug of hot chocolate, appreciating the soft, slow snowfall.
My favorite thing about the holidays has got to be that... aura that surrounds it, if you know what I mean. Some call it magic. It feels like anything can happen and worries are far away. Snow falls and muffles sound, but the quiet isn't lonely. You are safe and warm inside with family without feeling lonely. The pressures of the normal world have disappeared for that short period of time...
my favorite part is the time off to sleep, eat yummy chocolate, and read of course!
My favorite part is just staying inside the warm house while roasting s'mores. S'mores taste delicous with the chocolate bits.

Hi Elizabeth! My favorite part of the holidays is coming home and seeing my family! I live at school now, so I love being able to have ample time to spend with them before I need to go back!
Happy Holidays!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

To be honest my favorite thing is everything about the holidays. I love the music, food, decorations, shopping, snow... everything that has to do with it. Whenever November and December come along I get excited about the holiday season. So I couldn't possibley choose one favorite. :)

My favorite part of the holidays is when I come into my house and I find everything decorated for christmas: the tree filled with lights, every door with a little santa, and the joy and happiness that you can really feel in the air: everyone is happier this time of the year. I love that about christmas!
Thanks a lot :)

What is there not to love about the holidays? Winter break for students & teachers, awesome sales at the mall, great food, should I keep going on?
My absolute favorite thing is the lights! I love to see homes and businesses decorated in pretty lights. I love them all blinking, still, flashing, white, blue, multi-colored. Christmas lights are simply the BEST!

My favorite part of the holidays is the weather! It's cold and comfortable (well, in my city it's usually hot like hell you know). And I also love the days off too, more time to hang our with my loved ones and endless hours of reading. Besides, there're lots of presents, I enjoy giving and receiving them ^^
I've never seen snow but I bet it's nice.
Thanks for the giveaway. Happy Holidays to us all<333
My favorite thing about the holidays is the music. I liked it better in high school when i was in choir and the hand bell choir. But I still enjoy it.
I love every part of the holidays.
I love the spirit and joy of the holidays! And I wish for snow all the time! :)

My favorite part of the holidays is Christmas morning when everything is just calm and serene. Starting December 1, it's all busybusybusy with shopping, planning meals, baking cookies, shopping for presents, wrapping presents, putting up decorations, etc. I love doing those things, too, and always look forward to the Christmas rush. But of all the things I do during the holidays, it is the quiet time on Christmas day that I love most. Since we celebrate Christmas as a family on Christmas Eve, all the chaos happens then. Christmas day is just a nothing-to-do-today day. So this is when I wake up late, have Christmas fruit salad and Chocolate Chip Cookies for breakfast while reading a good book. And I already have a book lined up for that occasion...one of yours! Yay!
Snow is one of my favorite parts of the holidays, but since I started college, the holiday season means I get an entire month off where I get to read for pleasure. That's pretty awesome.

Aaah... My favorite part of the holidays are the cookies. You can't go wrong with warm, chocolate chip, melt-in-your-mouth goodness like that.
And of course, milk. Can't forget the milk. ;)

My favorite part of the holidays is buying presents for other people. It is so much fun to pick out the perfect present and then build it up with a little trash talk then wrap it up in pretty paper and ribbons. Best part ever.
Well, that and 24 hours of The Christmas Story, what isn't to love about that.
my favorite part of the holidays is spending tim with the family and all the good food! :)

i would love a chance to win Fade!
My favorite part is getting everyone presents :)
And winning would totally cheer a sick girl up ;)
OOOOH I really wanna read Fade!
My favorite part of the holidays would probably be gift shopping for my family and friends. It's nice to give someone something that they're looking forward to.
My favorite part of the holidays is more reading time! And more time to do what I actually want to do, and for two weeks not be caught up in my busy life with school and whatnot.
Happy Holidays!
