16 Days to Something, Maybe!

Sunday, March 08, 2009

Today, let me introduce you to Teagan, Hannah's best--and only--friend.

I met Teagan last spring. I'd seen her around before she went to college, of course, but she was a senior who wore amazing clothes and talked about going to New York all the time. And was--and did--none of those things.

But last spring, I was sitting outside one night while Mom was working, trying to pretend I didn't care that the Howards were looking at me out their windows every five seconds like I was about to start writhing around on the grass or something, and Teagan walked by.

"Hey," she said, and I was so surprised that she was back home--and all right, that she'd spoken to me--that I said "Hey" back.

In honor of Teagan, today I'm giving away The Season by Sarah MacLean, a book she'd most definitely approve of because there are no jeans in it. (Teagan *hates* jeans, but there's a reason for it....)

For a chance to win a copy of The Season, leave me a comment telling me how you met your best friend by midnight tonight and then I'll pick one name at random and that person will win the book! You can enter if you live overseas, of if you've won something from me before. All I ask is that you leave a way for me to contact you, so I can let you know if you win :-)

And to cap of this first week of the Countdown Celebration, here's what's been going on, plus a list of the winners!

So far, I've talked about the book reading and signing I'll be doing and this contest and given you a url that you can use to spread the word (http://elizabethwrites.com/blog/2009/03/something-maybe-mini-tourand-more.php), posted the first two chapters, which you can read here or here, talked about Hannah's job (which is an actual job!), shared a little more about Josh and Finn, Hannah's co-workers, and how there's more to Finn than Hannah thinks, listed five facts about Candy, Hannah's mom (including a few things that didn't make it into the book!), and talked about Jackson, Hannah's dad--and how he finally gets in touch with her

And there have been six winners so far: Deltay, Erika Lynn, Lisa, Avni, Anatole, and Jenn (who won yesterday's copy of Gone)--with plenty more to come!

Tomorrow, I'll be doing something on this blog that I've never done before--and continuing the celebration, of course!

I met my best friend my freshman year of college (almost nine years ago) at a Bible Study. We now live six hours apart, and she's married with a baby, but she was just here last week visiting :)

Hannah only has one friend? Is this because of her insecurities? I love it when friends are very different. I met my best friend at high school. We were in the same big group of friends but never really talked cos she was fairly new and not in my classes, but I asked if she was eating lunch inside one day (everyone else ate outside, even in the middle of winter and I was sick of being cold) she said yes and by the end of that first lunchtime we were pretty much best friends!

i am so lucky that i have the most amazing friends.
my main two best friends are emily r, emily c, and sometimes kayla.
sometimes not.
she's kind of mean.

but i met Emily C and Emily R outside of English class. I told Emily C to feel the inside of my sweatshirt, and she looked at me like i was a freak. we sang opera together in history.
and Emily R approached me outside of English and asked me if i was Mrs. Auld's son.
i am.

I met my bestfriend in middle school. We didn't get along at first. She thought I was cocky, i considered her a nerd. But then we fought against this stupid guy who was our table-mate and became best friends ^^

My best friend and I knew of each other all through middle school, even had French class together, but it wasn't until the first day of French in 8th grade when we bounded into a hug with one another that we became close. lol. It seems strange even to me now, how all of a sudden, after sort of knowing one another on and off, we just--bam!--became best friends like that.

I met my best friend on the first day of freshman year. It was english class. We didn't know each other yet, but as soon as I saw her I KNEW we would end up being friends. Later she came over to sit with me at lunch and we started talking. It turned out we had a lot in common (loving books and writing, etc.)

Weirdly, I can't even remember when or how my best friends and I met. We were little kids, I guess, but for all I can remember we've been friends forever.

I met by best friend when I was in sixth grade. At that time I have lost two friends for reason unknown (until three years later due to a lie of some girl told them about me). At first it was only two of us, but then we made more friends over time. Me and her were tight for like three years. Last year wasn't as much but still. This year she has a boyfriend so we barely see each other anymore.

I met my best friend when I was in second grade. She came in the middle of the school year so she was the "new girl". I remember everybody in class had to sign this really huge card and I was jealous of her because I wanted a card like that. Anyway after that we started to talk and we became best friends and we still are.

I met my best friend the first night of freshman year in college, when a bunch of us went to the local playground. We've been close for 10 years.

I just read Stealing Heaven and really enjoyed it! Looking forward to Something, Maybe! and catching up on your backlist in the meantime.

every day i get more and more into this book =)
okay so, my best friends. I have 3, all of which are in completely different social groups at school. and I know you said to write about my best friend, but i don't have one, so i'll share all three - it's up to you to read them =).
The first one:
She's a year older than me, graduating high school this year. we met when I was 13 in the middle school play. It was my first "part" ever, and we were both "wannabee's".
When she went off to high school i always called her "my freshmen" and she called me her "middle schooler" and when i came to the high school, we did the play together again, and i was "her freshmen" and she was "my sophomore" and the tradition continued to this day, she's "my senior" and i'm "her junior".
It's weird to think that next year she'll be "my freshmen" and i'll be "her senior".
but somewhere in the middle of this, probably right after freshmen year, i sent her an e-mail because she was going to a camp and told me she'd be bored so I should e-mail her, and it turned into this huge, tmi-filled, continuous e-mail. Eventually it stopped, and we never really saw each other in school (we still don't, except for the yearly play and choir class)
but we have 3 different e-mails on facebook, all of which have 1000ish posts in each, which started at the beginning of summer. she's the one person i can tell anything to and trust my secrets with. I'm a little bummed that she'll be going off to college this fall, but we have to keep the e-mails going to keep up on the latest school & twilight gossip =)
The second one:
we've been friends since kindergarden. I can honestly say she was my first friend (and like hannah, my only friend for years). When we were 12, and went into middle school, we were in different classes all 3 years, so we grew apart, and freshmen year when we ran into each other again, i was afraid she was a totally different person. I'd heard so many rumors about her and her boyfriends and other things. But I started talking to her, i mentioned that the new harry potter book was coming out (that had been one of the major things we'd had in common when we were little) and the first time we'd hung out in 4 years was going to a midnight release of harry potter. 2 years later and we're going strong again.
and last but not least:
She's been my neighbor since I was 4, but I didn't really know it. She was the principals daugther, so she got away with things constantly. We're both really competitive, and in elementary school, we hated each other. I remember I'd win an award for a drawing I did, and she'd glare at me. She'd get a better grade on a report, and i'd ignore her. What's more weird is that in between the times we'd hate each other, i remember hanging out with her and having fun.
But gradually we stopped taking the competition so seriously, had a lot of classes together and started getting partnered up, and because of all the stuff we have in common, we're great friends now. We still laugh from time to time, remembering back to when we'd just glare at each other.
i hope my stories were semi-entertaining! I can't wait for something, maybe!

I met my best friend Jess at the snack line back in middle school.
She didn't like me at first, so we were in the snack line when she was like "I think you're weird" and I was like "Back at ya" and we both laughed and have been bffs ever since.

I met my best friend when she arrived at school in 4th grade. She was soo tall and quiet, nobody talked to her. We got paired off to do a science oral report on frogs, and since that day we've been best friends... she's not so tall anymore and she doesn't shut up!
Thanks a lot,

I met my best friend in our freshman year in high school. We had different sets of friends (and lunch groups) but we talked often. When I found out on the first day of our sophomore year that we would be classmates, I saved her a seat next to me. And from then on we became inseparable.
