7 Days to Something, Maybe! (SEVEN!)

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

One week left(!) till Something, Maybe comes out and you know what? I want to know what *YOU* want to know about the book--that's right, today you get to question me!

So....what would you like to know about Something, Maybe? Ask me by midnight tonight and you could win an ARC of Kim Harrison's Once Dead, Twice Shy! I'll pick one winner at random and that person will get the ARC. I'll also do my best to answer every question I get!

And while you're thinking about what you'd like to ask, here are some links worth checking out:

A fabulous, surprisingly funny essay about living with food allergies--which, of course, I can totally relate to! When Don't Kill The Birthday Girl comes out, I'm so buying it.

The always fabulous Tess Gerritsen offers I Want to Be A Novelist. Advice, Please.

Beth Bernobich has a gorgeous poem about writing -- it captures what it is so well. If you only click on one link, make it this one.

Justine Larbalestier on the myth of the "suffering artist and on what you, as a writer, can do when you're worried--and this is truly GREAT ADVICE:

"You can only control the book you write.

You can’t control whether you sell it. You can’t control how big the advance is if you sell it. You can’t control how much is spent promoting it. You can’t control how many copies Barnes & Noble takes or whether they take it at all. You can’t control whether punters buy it when it finally appears on the shelves. You can’t control the reviews. You can’t control the award committees.

Spending time and energy angsting about any of that stuff will only do your head in.

All you can do is write the very best book you can.
"

Hard to follow but so, so true.

The manager of marketing for Dorchester talks about ways to promote your book--be sure to check the comments too, as she talks more about promotion there as well

Guess what the second-most-popular-page on Facebook is. Give up? Coca-Cola--but the catch is, it's not a page run by the company. It's a fan page

This is just so cool--a mini-challenge for my books!

Congrats to yesterday's winner, Senfaye, can't wait for your questions, and one week to go!!

Why did you change the title?

How did you pick their names?

What was the hardest character to write?

How long did it take you to write Something, Maybe?

Did it turn out to be the love story that you had wanted to write - perhaps something more than that?

If you could sum each character up in one word, what would that be?

7 days! Yikes! It just seems like the other day you had just announced 21 days!

i am always interested in characters names. how did you pick them and did you look up what the names mean to see if they match the characters personalities?
what was the part of the novel that was the hardest to write?

Hm, I wanted to ask a couple of questions of the above but I dislike to repeat. So, what inspired you to write Something, Maybe? And did you base your character off anyone you know in real life?

One more week to go!!!

I have a few questions to ask:

Why is it called Something, Maybe?
Have you ever wanted to change something about the book? If you have, what would it be?
I realize that (through the summaries) all of your books are about family and relationship...why do you choose to write about that?
Who was the one you gave your first copy of Something, Maybe to?

I wanted to ask more, but I think these are enough : D

I don't want to be greedy, so I'm not entering the contest. But I was wondering:

I think you mentioned that Something, Maybe has changed a lot from your original idea. How has it changed?

How did you come up with the characters? Did thinking up one lead to another, or did you just know they belonged?

Thanks!

A lot of my questions were asked above. So heres hopefully I couple different ones.

Did you get to pick the title or have any imput into what it would end up as?

What are you working on next?

Will you bring these or some of the characters back in another novel?

What was the hardest part of writing Something, Maybe?

Who was your favourite character to write?

How did you get the idea to have such a cool countdown contest? (not strictly about the book I know, but most authors would have maybe one book giveaway if that.) Also, did the 22 days have any significance or did you just randomly pick a countdown number?

And wheee! Seven days!

Most everyone else has asked questions I wanted to ask about the book, so I'll ask a general writing one. It seems as though since your debut with Bloom you've been releasing lots of books (yay!) Were these books ideas that you already had written when you first sold Bloom, or did they come after? Do you have a pool of ideas that you pull from?

How hard was it to get your book published?

Where did you get the initial idea the prompted/inspired you to write the book?

What were some of the editing processes you and your editor go through when you were editing the book?

P.S. I'm new to this blog (though I'm already starting to love it) but when do the winners get announced for previous draws?

I entered the Wings thing yesterday, and you said it only lasts till midnight, but then when do you pick the winner?
