surprise! (and thank you)

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

A huge thank you to everyone for being so understanding about the ARCs for The Unwritten Rule--I am still going to do my best to get copies, but it's really nice to know that if I have to send out photocopies, that will be okay.

So, in order to thank you for your awesomeness I'm--you guessed it!!--giving away some books!

For your chance to win, all you have to do is comment and tell me about a book or movie that surprised you with its ending. For instance, I just read Lucy Dawson's His Other Lover, and I so did not see the ending of that book coming! (I wrote a whole review of it over at goodreads)

Leave your comment about a book or movie with an ending that wasn't what you were expecting by midnight EST this Friday, November 6th and then I'll pick four names at random and each of those four people will get a free book!

Books I'm giving away are: an ARC of Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Domamore, Tricks by Ellen Hopkins, Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me by Louise Rennison, and As You Wish by Jackson Pearce

So come on, tell me what's surprised you!

I absolutely love your contests Elizabeth!
The movie The Proposal had a surprising ending for me. I thought Sandra Bullock wasn't going to be honest and just keep going with her whole "We're in love and going to get married" kind of thing. Surprisingly she didn't. I'm not going to spoil the ending for you in case you want to see it. It's a super funny movie and I loved it.

Elizabeth, you are seriously the best!

The end of Once A Witch by Carolyn MacCullough. It just came out so I know a lot of people want to read it, but haven't. Lets just say I had one of those "WHAT?!" moments. It was a very Harry Potter bittersweet ending. Watch, someone else read it and saw it coming. I, certainly, did not!

I just read "Austenland" by Shannon Hale, and a part close to the end surprised me. The very ending wasn't super surprising, but close to the end one of the characters is revealed to be someone other than who you think he is. That part really did surprise me - I didn't expect that character to be a liar.

Mine is a movie and it's kinda a dumb one. A long time ago my then boyfriend and I watched Shadowlands about C.S. Lewis's life. Well I didn't know the woman he married died. I cried and cried and cried when it got to the end! Then I got mad at my bf because he didn't tell me!

I saw The Notebook as a movie first. Then I read the book. I was VERY surprised at the ending of the book, because it was different than the movie. I did like both versions, though!

The ending to Jodi Piccoult books just leave me with my mouth hanging open. Seriously. I've only read a couple of her books, the first being My Sister's Keeper. I heard some talk about the ending, but I just wasn't expecting that. When I read Handle With Care, I just couldn't believe her ending.

This is kind of a funny topic for me because people who know me, know that I ALWAYS guess the endings of things. I pick up on foreshadowing in everything, and can usually guess where plot twists are heading.

I do however, get surprised by character's reactions in stories. So I'm gonna say that in the first volume of Vampire Diaries, i did not expect Elena to act the way she did in the very last chapter. I literally yelled at her out loud while reading the book on a road trip. :)

interesting blog.

Usually, I am pretty good at guessing the ending. Based on the plot and the foreshadowing given by the author or director, I can give an educated guess on the ending. The Sixth Sense and Signs are the movies I did not see the ending coming.

Hmm, definitely something that was revealed near the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows involving Snape. I did not expect that and was surprised when reading the chapter yet it all made sense in the end! JKR is brilliant :D Also, it doesn't happen at the end, but a death midway through in Deathly Hallows totally shocked me and left me in a pool of tears!

Thanks!

I was shocked by the ending of THE GOLDEN COMPASS when I first read it, expecting a happy solution, not a shocking murder of a friend.

Probably the most shocking experience with a book that I read many years ago but won't ever forget was when a historical suspense called WITCH FROM THE SEA by Phillippa Carr (Victoria Holt) when halfway through the book, the first person POV heroine is killed.
