Don't forget to come see me at RJ Julia--and contest time!

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Don't forget that tomorrow I'll be in Connecticut signing books (and talking about YA with Jenny Han AND Kieran Scott) at RJ Julia. It all starts at 7 PM--hope to see you there!

Also, I just realized I hadn't done the contest I'd talked about before, so...it's time for one, and YOU might win a copy of the awesome Lovestruck Summer by Melissa Walker!

I have five to give away, and all you have to do for your chance to win is leave a comment about your favorite summer activity. You'll need to have a US mailing address to be eligible, and leave your comment (remember to include a way for me to contact you!) by midnight EST on Friday, May 21st, and then I'll pick five people at random and those five people will win the book!

On to the links:

John Scalzi on Why "Punishing the Publisher" doesn't hurt the publisher--it hurts authors

Betsy Lerner's beautiful post about the magic of words

Maggie Stiefvater on time management

Over at Book View Cafe, an inspiring post about continuing to write

And at Genreality, a nice round-up of actual writing posts that deal with actual numbers re: money, selling, getting an agent, first advances, and etc.

I wish I could got see you at RJ Julia! It's only an hour and a half from my house, but I've already got plans with my friend and I'm not sure if she'll want me to drag her to yet another book event... I'll ask though!

Anyway, my favorite summer activity is Royal Family Kids' Camp. Every summer I volunteer a week there, working with abused and neglected kids. I get the least sleep of any week of the year but it is so very worth it. I wouldn't trade those weeks for anything!

Oh I wish I lived closer! I live in California sadly. If only I had a private plane...

My favorite summer activity is just reading books at the beach :). I live a block away, so during the summer each day I drag my blanket, my book and my snacks down and just read for a few hours. I think reading outside makes books even better!

I wish I could go! But I live on the gulf coast. Have fun!

My favorite would probably be spending a lot of time with my family. We go to the beach, water parks, camping. But out of those I'd pick going to the beach as my favorite. (I sometimes take a book and relax while my sisters fly kites.) They think I'm crazy to read at the beach. xD

My favorite summer activity is reading books at the beach. It's my catch-up on reading time from the busy school year. I can't help it...I am such a book nerd. Oh well, I teach English, what do you expect? ;)Thanks for hosting the contest Elizabeth! :)

I have wanted to read this book for such a long time!
My favorite thing to do in the summer is go for walks at night. The sun sets and a few hours pass and then I set out into my neighborhood. The calm and the warmth of the air is perfect, and everyone is sleeping. I feel safe, in my little corner of the world, walking around my neighborhood.
But I do this year round, so I'm not totally sure if it counts.

My favorite summer activity is taking advantage of the nice weather with friends. Whether that's travelling or hanging out locally - as long as we're out and about.

My favorite summer activity is being an assistant counselor at the planetarium. I work with kindergarteners and first graders, and they're all so adorable! the only bad thing is that i need to get there by 6:30am everyday.

My favorite summer activity is geekin' it up at an SAT prep camp, three days a week throughout the month of June.

... I was really just kidding. Though I am a bit excited to see that score go up to a 2200... maybe.

Anyways, the summer activity I'm really looking forward to is a Christian leadership camp called Super Summer. Yes, it is super. Yes, it is lifechanging. Every year I've been there I've learned something new about myself, about God, and every year I've been able to peel away another layer of the mask that I've been needing to take off. And the YEC, Youth Evangelical Conference, which is featuring big name bands like Hawk Nelson and BarlowGirl :)

favorite summer activity: Salkehatchie. It's a camp run through the Methodist church where youth groups and adult volunteers across SC help repair homes for people who can't afford professional home repair. It's a fantastic experience.

My favorite summer activity is playing badminton with my family. Or just staying inside, on my bed reading multiple books.

That would be nice to meet you at Connecticut.

The one summer activity that I like best is walking on the beach. It feels so calm and relaxing with the waves in the background.

My favorite summer activity is going to shows. There's one in particular-Warped Tour, that features somewhere between 30 and 50 bands that play all day long on different stages. It's wicked fun. The day Warped Tour makes it's way to Massachusetts is always one of my favorite days.

Oh, and reading on the beach is also one of my favorite summer rituals. =)
