Interview with Jennifer Echols--and win a copy of Endless Summer!

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

The Girlfriends' Cyber Circuit (GCC) is a webring of YA novelists, and I'm happy to be part of it because I get to talk to other YA authors about their books--which, well, how awesome is that? (And I think we all know how much I love YA!)

Today I'm talking to Jennifer Echols about her new novel, Endless Summer

Me: Tell us about your book in ten words or less!

Jennifer: Lori loves older brother, younger brother loves her. Summer heat!

Me: What's the best writing advice you've ever been given?

Jennifer: Write the book you want to read. (Me: LOVE this!)

Me: What do you wish you'd known about being published/publishing before your book/first book came out?

Jennifer: I had a lot of anxiety before Major Crush came out in 2006 that nobody would like it, but the truth is that as long as you’re following the writing advice above, you have nothing to worry about. Other people will enjoy your writing too. You’re not THAT weird. (Me: Love this too!!)

Me: What's the last book you read that you loved so much you had to tell everyone about it?

Jennifer: I’ve been telling everybody about The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting, a YA romantic suspense with a splash of paranormal, and most importantly (at least to me), an adorable hero.

Me: So, I hear you have a copy of Endless Summer to give away?

Jeri: I do!

Me: YAY!! So, everyone, if you're interested in winning a copy of Endless Summer, just leave a comment telling me what books or author you plan on getting/seeing or would LOVE to see at this year's BEA by midnight EST on Friday, May 28th, and then I'll pick one comment via the random number generator, and that person will win the FREE copy of Endless Summer! (Please note that this contest is only open to US residents/those with US addys only)

Me: Random Bonus Question Time...What's your favorite salad dressing?

Jennifer: Newman’s Own Southwest Dressing. This stuff could make an old tire taste good.

Thank you, Jennifer, for stopping by, and don't forget to leave your comment about what you authors you plan on/wish you could see, or what books you want to/wish you could get at this year's BEA to win a free copy of Endless Summer by midnight EST this Friday, May 28th!

There are so many authors that I would love to see at BEA. You definitely, and I love Richelle Mead as well! And I just read one of Jennifer Echols' books, "Going too Far" and I LOVED it, so I would love her to be there as well =]

I am currently nursing a large case of BEA envy, but maybe next year! Are you going to the ALA conference in Washington DC this year Elizabeth? This year is an awesome year for YA books. I would love to get Beautiful Darkness, Grace, Ascendant, and Crescendo from BEA. Great interview! :)

I so wish that my BEA plans had panned out for me! If I were going though, I would have loved to get my hands on Matched by Ally Condie and Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler.

I've got total BEA envy, but there's no way my library system would ever pay to send me. I'd want to see Rachel Vincent and and Melissa Kantor oh and Cory Doctorow. as for books....too long a list to type!

I want to be at BEA so badly. I'm purposely limiting my time on twitter so I don't see all the BEA tweets. I really would love copies of Beautiful Darkness, Crescendo, Matched, Grace, Wildthorn, Revolution, and Thaw.

I know it isn't close to being out yet, but I really, really want to read the next book in Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. The title just came out: Last Sacrifice. Eeek! And an author I would love, love, love to meet is Libba Bray. She just seems so quirky and fun - I don't think that awkwardness that's sometimes there when you meet an author would be a factor in a meeting with Libba Bray!
