oooh, MANY free books!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Last night, I got to go to a dinner hosted by S&S--there were teens there, librarians, authors like Holly Black, Sharon Draper, Ellen Hopkins, and Carol Lynch Williams (I KNOW!)--and me. We all spoke in alphabetical order and okay, let me just say, speaking after Holly Black AND Sharon Draper AND Ellen Hopkins?

I honestly don't remember what I said. I hope it was coherent--I do not think I have ever been so scared in my life. It's hard enough following one amazing authors, but three??? (Oh, and Ellen Hopkins?? Her speech made me tear up!!) I really thought I was going to faint.

On the other hand, how cool is it that Simon & Schuster thought I deserved to be in the same room with all those amazing authors and the teens and librarians who were nice enough to come? I was--and am--so grateful to them, as well as to everyone who came. (And I apologize for my speech--I had a nightmare last night that I was talking backwards during it and I hope it wasn't THAT bad!!)

And! BONUS! The lovely people at Simon Pulse, who know how much I adore you guys--and love giving away free books--have given me not one, not two, but FIVE sets of the following books:

That's right, there are so many books I actually couldn't hold them all! But, just so you know, every single one of the FIVE winners gets:

an ARC of Ellen Hopkins' Fallout
Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
Glimpse by Carol Lynch Williams
a signed copy of The Unwritten Rule by your truly
The Curse Workers: White Cat by Holly Black

PLUS one extra ARC from Simon & Schuster (yes, really! which means SIX books total!!) and a tote bag to carry all those books in!

To enter, all you have to do is tell me what your best moment this summer has been so far by this Friday, July 2nd, at midnight EST. You'll also need a US mailing address (there's no way I can ship so many books overseas without taking out a loan!) and please, please make sure you leave a way for me to contact you if you win one of the FIVE sets of books!

I'll pick the five winners at random, and I can't wait to hear what your best moments of this summer have been. I bet you can guess mine!!

My favorite moment of this summer, so far, was last night. Lying on the beach, looking at the stars, when I should've been sleeping. Getting up from being on the ground and finding rocks in my hair and on my elbows and my knees and in my shoes. They were falling off of me all the way home.
Fallout. The Unwritten Rule. Yes, please.

Such a great contest! My favorite moment so far this summer happened with my friends. We all got together and went to Pizza Hut, then to the movies (we saw Killers which was hilarious), and then to Dairy Queen (I'm a food girl, can you tell?). We had so much fun and it was great to hang out without the worry of school. I only wish it could have lasted longer.

Another great moment will (hopefully) be tonight. Going to see Eclipse at midnight!

Thanks for the great contest! I'm sure your speech went fine. Everyone loves you anyways.

Best so far? Probably spending the night at my cousin's house. She's only nine months older than me and she moves back and forth a lot, so it's hard to ever see her.

But the other night we stayed up till five in the morning and just talked. It was one of those "don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" moments. So far my summer is turning out to be a really special one.

Hope you're having a good summer too! :)

Hi Elizabeth! Awesome giveaway. Okay, so my best moment this summer is kind of tied in with my worst moment, because while it was humiliating at the time it's provided some good laughs. Two days ago at a party I was leaning against the back of a couch. A guy who's known for shoving people came up to me - I didn't see him - and did his shoving thing. It was like the Matrix; my arms were waving frantically, trying to get my balance back, but it was too late. I fell back, rolling two times, my legs splayed everywhere, and I guess I took a table out with my foot on the way down. I ended up on the floor, crying and laughing at the same time. Now every time I see someone from that party they go, "Ha, remember when..." and so on. Best and worst, definitley.

Again, thanks.

I was also able to buy bunches of awesome books (like Something Like Fate and Only the Good Spy Young and many more).

Elizabeth you always give us such great giveaways! You're the best :).

My best summer moment so far was actually this weekend. Amazing boyfriend and I took off on our bikes in the early morning and just went riding. Beach wind in my hair, ocean spray on my face...I so love living near the beach. Our day ended at right before sunset, where we plunked ourselves down on the sand to watch the sun disappear. Oh...I loved it. Top that off with the fact I finally bought myself a new book that day and you have one perfect day!

This summer memory is the biggest milestone in my life so far. Just a couple of days ago I threw my cap in the air with my classmates as we were pronounced high school graduates. My heart lurched a little when I realized that some of my friends would be going away and that I would never see most of these people again (whether I liked them or not, they were familiar). But mostly I was excited for later this year where I will enter SUNY Purchase as a Creative Writing student. Not even a day later I was getting dolled up for our prom and the after party which lasted until 5:00am this morning! As all the kids around me were dancing I actually said, "I could be at home reading a good book, that's the reason I'd stay up all night."

Oh, Elizabeth, how do I choose only one? Let’s see, I guess my favorite moment (so far) would be sitting on the deck watching two crazy little kids run around the yard playing in the ladybug sprinkler. Their laughter was contagious and before I knew it, I joined in on the fun.

If you ask me this question in four weeks, I’m sure my answer will be the coast-to-coast family road trip we are about to embark on. (New York to Oregon) I’ll keep you posted. :-)

Hello Mrs. Scott
Well my best summer memory was the day i came out of a homeless shelter for good. At the time i was only ten, and living with my mom and my newborn sister. I could still remember how happy i was that i didnt have to go back to that place. 3 months of sleeping in different places and riding the bus alone to school in NYC. From 104 E to 160th. My Aunt was the one who rescued me from there. There is nothing that could compare to that memory. It may seem sad, but in the end, I would never take it back.

Probably my trip to Korea. I'm mostly Korean (and a fourth, well, American) and it was so cool! I never fully embraced my culture until recently... I always thought of myself as white, however, the trip made me realize that I can be both Korean and American.
Not only that, but the food was fantastic!

My best moment of my summer was my high school graduation. My mom bought me a gorgeous dress and my dad bought me shoes. I felt like I had a piece of them with me when I walked across the stage. Taking pictures with my friends and family really made me cherish the people I have had as support systems these last four years. I love that how happy I was in those moments have been captured on film. Then, going out to dinner with my grandparents, my brother, my mom, and my mom's boyfriend. I love thai food but my grandpa hates anything ethnic...but he ate there anyway! And picked up the bill, which was just too sweet. Plus, I'm a tea addict and our table went through four or fives pots. We had mango sticky rice for dessert, which is one of my favorites. I went for a run with my dad afterwards, and the endorphins added to my happiness high. When I got home, my brother took me out to see Toy Story 3. We got lost on the way there, the only showing they had was in 3D (so more expensive), and the price for drinks were outrageous. My brother treated for the tickets and I got drinks. It felt like a fitting movie since Andy was graduating and going off to college... and it was the perfect way to end an awesome day :)

Thanks for the contest!

This entire summer has been a whirlwind! Moving to DC, working for a literary agency, and trying to master the metro (which, thankfully, I have done!). But I'd have to say the best moment so far this summer actually came yesterday! I'd been sick the last two weeks, and unable to go to work. When I showed up yesterday, wondering if I'd missed anything, I was told a book I'd found in the slush pile, loved SO much, and was one of the best things I've read recently, had been offered representation. By us! THAT was the highlight of my summer, by far!

Best summer moment for me so far is just spending time with my kids. Weather it is taking them to the lake, out for ice cream, or just hanging around the house with them. I love spending time with them.

I'm storing up lovely memories right now here with my boys at grandma's house--it's probably the last summer we'll be here, so we're making sure to live this week to the fullest!

Thanks for the giveaway!

OMG! How awesome.

So, my best thing this summer? Landing an awesome job at a T-shirt company here in town. I'm a graphic designer! (Oh yeah!) Plus, my husband & I got a kitten (I'm such a cat person but haven't had one in 5+ years!)... so it's been a pretty good summer. : )

Thanks for the giveaway. It's AMAZING!

My best moment of the summer so far has been hosting a bridal shower for my best friend! We've been friends since second grade and now (at 25) I'm her maid of honor. :)

This is a great contest! Count me in!

My favorite moment this summer was driving two hours with my boyfriend to see our favorite band, The Spill Canvas, getting lost trying to find the theater, and walking around Madison, Wisconsin for a while. We still made it in time for the concert, and the venue was so small that we were standing within touching distance of the band. It was so hot and humid in there that most people would have left, but all of the fans were die-hards and it was such a blast. The band was awesome despite the heat and they were so nice to everyone. It was amazing.

My favorite summer moment so far was the start of summer reading teen party. We started with a frozen t-shirt contest(you freeze a sopping wet t-shirt and then teams have to unthaw it first and put it on). Then we did reconstructed t-shirts out of last years Summer reading shirts and other shirts kids and I brought in. I had a lot of fun and the best part was giving the kids stacks of books to check out and read! teensatthelibrary[at]yahoo[dot]com

My favorite summer moment (so far) was my cousin's wedding last week (even though it was an outdoor reception in 95 degree, humid weather!) It was beautiful!

Thanks for offering the great contest! (adazzlingdistraction at gmail dot com)

So far, my favorite summer moment was when both my mom and and my sister came out to spend the week with me. I live a couple of states away from both and it was wonderful to have them around. We ate, played games, watched movies - so much fun! Thanks.

Best moment so far .. this is pretty cheesy, but I recently went to a huge camp-out party. My ex-boyfriend, who used to be one of my best friends, was there. And it was awkward at first but at the end of the night we were sitting next to each other in front of the bonfire. It was so relaxing and like the old days. I definitely think that's my favorite thing that has happened so far. :)

Of course you're a great author good enough to be with the rest of them! And thanks for doing this contest for us.

The best part of my summer so far has been when my newest cousin was born. It feels like my family is getting even closer together because of her.

My best summer memory so far was yesterday actually. I went to Alabama to visit my brother who is in the army and has been at boot camp and officer candidate school for the past six months. I hate that he's gone, but it was amazing to see him...now I miss him all over again though. haha Love him dearly.

My favorite moment of this summer so far was preparing madly for a local Iron Chef competition. I spent an entire morning working to make a coconut custard perfect.
