it's raining hives--I mean FREE BOOKS!

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

I was going to do a video blog this morning, but as I am currently a wee bit hiveish -- well, as I adore you all so, trust me, you SO don't need to see that!

So instead I am going to do this:

Give away (to anyone with a US mailing addy)

an ARC of Sophie Jordan's Firelight
an ARC of April Lindner's Jane
AND
an ARC of Jennifer Donnelly's Revolution

How can you get all of these ARCs?

Simple!

Tell me what movie I should go see this weekend.

Yep, that's it! Let me know what movie you think I MUST see, and be sure to leave a way for me to contact you!--by midnight EST this Friday, August 6th.

Then, I'll either pick a winner, or if a bunch of you pick the same movie I end up seeing, I'll pick a winner at random.

(Also, congrats to Sarah and Karen--Sarah won a copy of one of Melissa de la Cruz's YA novels, and Karen won a copy of Kieran Scott's She's So Dead To Us! And many, many thanks to both Melissa and Kieran for their great guest blogs last week!)

Normally I couldn't answer this but after 8 months of not going to the cinema I went three times in one week, to see Inception, Eclipse and Knight & Day.

Eclipse was my favourite but I think everyone should see Inception on the big screen, it's visually stunning and has Cillian Murphy in it.

So short answer - INCEPTION

Well I'm seeing Inception this weekend, but isn't everyone else?

My answer (fingers crossed, no whammies, no whammies) is The Kids Are All Right.

I definitely think you should see Inception. I'm not sure if it is your type of movie, but it is seriously mind blowing, and one of the few movies that can't be missed on the big screen. Seriously, though, it was amazing. Or Charlie St. Cloud, it was a beautiful story. And, Zac Efron is pretty dang cute.
miranda.lyons09@yahoo.com

Other movies:
Despicable Me (I know, I know it's a cartoon, but SO cute, SO funny.)
Eclipse (Taylor Lautner is beautiful)
Toy Story 3 (It's a classic)
Knight & Day (So funny)
Grown ups (Pretty funny, kind of..)

First choice--Inception. Already one of my favorite movies ever.

I also want to see The Kids Are All Right and The Other Guys!

Charlie St. Cloud

Despicable Me

Step Up 3 (HA, I know, far fetched BUT it definitely fits the YA market demographic and I just have so much respect for people who can dance well. I am sure the story part will be phoned in at best but the dancing will be amazing)

Have a great weekend regardless!

I sort of feel the need to say Inception, but seeing as I haven't seen it yet we'd be on the same boat seeing it this weekend.

So instead I'll say Toy Story 3 (assuming it's still showing in your local theater). I have to admit I'm a sucker for anything pretty that Disney throws at me. But I don't think I've ever gotten so emotional in a theater...at least not since Pan's Labyrinth.

I also want to see Charlie St. Cloud really bad.
Good luck!

So by now this post is completely unoriginal because about half of the comments that are already there are about Inception, but they're right.

Inception was a totally awesome movie about getting into people's dreams and stealing their secrets; Leo DiCaprio's character takes an "impossible" job /planting/ an idea instead, so that he can go home and see his kids. It was so, so good - definitely one of the best movie's I've seen in /ages/ - and it's one of those movies that I'm still thinking about all the time even though I saw it two weeks ago. Definitely see Inception at some point, even if you don't pick it for this weekend. :)

In the last two months, there have been three movies that were awesome:

#1: Inception
If you like mind games, this is the one for you... I wouldn't recommend going if you don't feel like thinking though.

#2: Dinner for Schmucks
I really enjoyed this one with all of the humor. Paul Rudd and Steve Carell were amazing in it.

#3: Grown Ups
Another great comedy, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, Cris Rock, and David Spade are great.

I haven't seen The Other Guys (which comes out on Friday) yet, but it looks really funny.

Dinner for Schmucks is hilarioussssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. I love Inception too, but its more of a drama, so it's all about what kind of movie youre into at the moment. Drama - Inception, Comedy - Dinner for Schmucks.

I haven't been to the movies in a while. But I can tell you the movies I'm pining on. Lol.

Charlie St. Cloud - I'm not a fan of Zac Efron but the movie looks like it's going to be adorable.

Step Up 3 - I'm a sucker for dance movies but John M. Chu (the director) put a lot of heart and soul into this movie so I'm counting on it being less bad acting and more story than the others.

Dinner For Schmucks - I'm not big on comedy but this movie actually looks pretty darn funny. Plus it has Paul Rudd in it. He generally does a good job.

The Kids Are All Right - This movie looks amazing. I'm looking to bribe people to go with me to see it. I love heart, and this movie appears to have plenty.

ok. first of all, I'm not a movie person. but i liked these... so i'm going to say that these were pretty awesome.

1. Sherlock Holmes. exciting, funny, quirky, a little magical but totally understandable in the end... i'd watch it a million times. plus it had a great sound track.

2. The sorcerer's apprentice. i mean, hello. nicolas cage. how can you go wrong? lol ;D it was very funny, the hero was loveable (and a total nerd!) and it was clean: no language, no bloody violence, and no sex.

two awesome movies!!

WELL, I actually work at a movie theater.

Eclipse is a good book, but I was disappointed in the movies.

Inception, Charlie St. Cloud, Salt, and Dinner For Schmucks are not doing well.

If you're looking for an action film, go for Knight & Day.

Family fun I suggest Despicable Me. One of the cutest and funniest movies I've seen in a while.

Grown Ups is also doing well.

Knight & Day was also awesome.

You need to see Inception. I'm not kidding. It's probably the best movie out there. But pee before seeing it b/c if you miss even a second of the movie, it'll get really confusing.

After you see Inception (b/c you need to), go online and google "Top 10 things I missed during Inception." Lol, seriously, you'll be like "oooooh, yeah!" :D

You should see 'The Other Guys' with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. I have been waiting to see this movie all summer! Not only do you have the awesomeness that is Will Ferrell, but add in the hotness of Mark Wahlberg (maybe with his shirt off, hopefully?...) and Derek Jeter making a cameo (to answer the ultimate question of 'Can he act?'), and how can you not want to see this?

Seriously. See this movie. :)

If you're going out, you should probably see Inception or (not sure where you live so this might not be available) The Kids Are All Right.

If however you are renting/staying in, Turner Classic Movies is having a great weekend with Ingrid Bergman movies on Friday and Errol Flynn movies on Saturday. Films recommended for Friday: Intermezzo at 8pm, Casablanca at 9:30pm, and Notorious (with Cary Grant!) at 11:30pm. Then The Adventures of Robin Hood is on Saturday at 6:15pm and The Sea Hawk follows at 8pm. [All times EST] To be honest, I think any of those films are better than anything currently in theaters. They just don't make movie stars like that anymore. All the best!
