win not one but TWO signed books!
Tuesday, September 21, 2010
I'm feeling a little stressed right now (okay, massively stressed) and have decided to cheer myself up by having a contest!
I've got a signed copy of Jekel Loves Hyde by Beth Fantaskey *and* a signed copy of The Rise of Renegade X by Chelsea M. Campbell to give away.
For your chance to win both books, all you need is a US mailing addy and:
--Leave a comment telling me what YOUR favorite way to de-stress is by this Friday, September 24th, at midnight EST
Oh, and don't forget to make sure you leave a way for me to contact you--the winner will be whoever leaves a de-stresser suggestion that sounds like it will work for me, and that person will get both of the books!
I also, as always, have a few links to share:
John Scalzi on finding the time to write (and excuses not to)
From Genreality, a Quick and Dirty Guide to Structure
Pimp My Novel on Banned Book Week -- this year, Living Dead Girl made the list, and, right now, Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak is under attack for being "pornographic" (Just typing that makes my head spin--how can anyone say that about Speak?)
Writer Unboxed on avoiding career self-sabotage
Agent and author Nathan Bransford on what "platform" means for writers--"A "platform" may be comprised of an Internet or media presence, a very strong reputation in a particular field, a TV show, affiliation with a popular brand, a connection to a popular writing collective, celebrity status, or ownership of the world's largest soapbox. When it comes to platform: publishers want authors to have it, especially for nonfiction, and it doesn't hurt for fiction either. "

The best way for me to destress is to do something that makes me happy. For instance, this time of year I love to take walks in different parts of my city to see all the changes in the scenery. I usually pack along some hot tea or hot cocoa.
Hope you find something that works. Being stressed is no fun.

My best way to de-stress is to turn on my ipod, raise the volume, and just dance around my room. I don't allow myself to worry about anything, and just let myself have fun for once. I actaully have to do this a lot because of all my AP classes.
I hope you are able to find a way to de-stress as well.

My favorite way to de-stress is to curl up on my couch with my kitties and and a good book.
My favorite way to destress is to settle down on my lounge chair with a romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate.
My favorite way to de-stress is enjoying the little things in life-stopping to go outside and blow bubbles or enjoying the weather when the sun is shining!!

Okay, this might sound silly, but it works for me. I de-stress by coloring in a coloring book. Concentrating on coloring in the denizens of the Hundred Acre Wood always clears my mind, which helps me relax.

I make lists. Not necissarily a list of important things, or a list of something that I need to do. I just create a list of something completely random and fun like my top ten favorite candy logos, the seven saddest television moments, rank the Brat Pack, etc. And then I make a blog post with pictures and stuff out of my list and sometimes I post it and sometimes I don't, but by the time I'm done I'm generally pretty relaxed.

Reading a good book always helps, but I personally love to go to a nice little restaurant and just people watch. Concentrating on what other people are doing and guessing what they're thinking, feeling, etc is a great way for me to stop thinking about myself and my problems. Plus you get a good meal out of it!

My favorite thing to do when I'm stressed is bake fun-fetti cookies, pour myself a huge glass of milk or some other delicious drink. Then go to my room with yummy, yummy treats, get in a hot bath with an amazing book, and just soak and sink into another world to forget my own for a little while.

BEst way to destress for me is to get outside and do something. My personal favorite is to head to the barn and take my horse for a trail ride, but if I can't get there, a hike in the woods or down by the river will do the trick! Of course, I always bring my camera and take pictures too :)

My best way to de-stress is to listen to some music (guilty-pleasures preferably) and dance it out. I concentrate only on the music so that I can't even think about the things that are stressing me out.
Hope it helps!

My best way to destress is to get a massage or go to a spa and just relax with a good friend.

One of my favorite destress methods: going to the zoo. You get to be outside and be "away" without really being "away" and here in Utah, there's a baby elephant and tiger cubs at the zoo. It's nice to sit down and watch them just play for a while. It's like destressing via distant-osmosis. ;)
Good luck to you on destressing!
I would either read my favorite book or listen to music. If I wasn't that stressed then I would go for a run.

my favorite way to de-stress is to take a nap... or to just sit in the dark somewhere... or at the end of the day on my way home from work, crank the music loud in the car and just sing along. =)
