Interview with Lauren Strasnick (and win a copy of her new book!)

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

Today, I'm doing a Girlfriends' Cyber Circuit interview with Lauren Strasnick about her new book, Her and Me And You

Me: Tell us about your book in ten words or less!

Lauren: Creepy Twins! Broken friendship! First Love!

Me: What's the best writing advice you've ever been given?

Lauren: Be fearless.

Me: What do you wish you'd known about being published/publishing before your book/first book came out?

Lauren: Ha, well, not that it would have changed anything – this is still my absolute dream job – but the amount of promotional work that goes into launching a book – who knew?! I’m in the midst of promoting H&M&Y right now, while also trying to meet a deadline on my next book. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t tricky juggling both!

Me: What's the last book you read that you loved so much you had to tell everyone about it?

Lauren: THE BASIC EIGHT by Daniel Handler. That book blew my mind. Teen satire. A funny version of Donna Tartt’s THE SECRET HISTORY. Sensational.

Me: What blogs do you *have* to read?

Lauren: Funny enough, mostly style blogs. A few favorites: http://www.liebemarlene.com/, http://vanessajackman.blogspot.com/, http://www.turnedout.tv/, http://www.garancedore.fr/en/, and http://www.thesartorialist.blogspot.com/

Me: Random Bonus Question: What's your favorite salad dressing?

Lauren: Plain old oil and vinegar (although I like ranch and thousand island on my french fries!)

Thanks for stopping by, Lauren, and to celebrate the release of Her and Me and You I'm giving away one copy--and for your chance to win, all you have to do is tell me what you think the one NEW tv show I should try (when I have time!) by midnight EST this Friday, October 8th.

Great interview--Lauren's book sounds great!

I don't watch too much TV, but I've heard good things about Boardwalk Empire--that's what I'd be watching if we still had HBO!

Great interview. I am really looking froward to reading this one.

I am really enjoying Hawaii 5-0. I didn't think I would and I only caught an episode because I watched it with my mom, but so far I am enjoying it. Hunky guys and beautiful scenery.

Great interview--I can't wait to read this book. :)

As far ar TV, I would've said My Generation--but ABC just cancelled it. :( With that said, I have to agree with Christi and say Boardwalk Empire. I've seen the first two shows, and it's well-written, wonderfully acted, and visually stunning (the set is to die for).

Great interview, will be on the lookout for this book.

Best new show? Well I have tons that are NEW to ME (all CW shows) But Hellcats is new and I am loving it! I love watching CW shows now and calling them research for my YA writing, ha!

This book looks good :) I love the cover, too!

Hmm, new shows? The Big C! It's on showtime, and it's on its sixth episode? So it's not new-new, but it's in its first season.

But they're only about half an hour or so, and it's SO GOOD. So freaking good. Really. It's got Laura Linney in it and she's diagnosed with skin cancer, and it's about how she's starting to finally allow herself to be herself.

Uhhhhhmmmmm good new shows... I think it's a tie between The Undercovers about a spy couple, and a new crime show called Chase that's really good. Both of them are on NBC.

One good show that's in it's first season right now is Nikita. It's on every Thursday on the CW after Vampire Diaries.

This book looks great! I'm definitely adding it to my to-read list. And the cover is beauteous! XD

I'd recommend the comedy Raising Hope. It's o after Glee on FOX every Tuesday and follows this guy who's trying to raise a baby but is completely unprepared and hindered by his eccentric family.

I have been waiting forever to read this book!

One TV show I would recommend is Better Off With You. It's a half hour, and hilarious, and it is a show that you are not required to watch every week to understand what is going on (which will be convenient with a busy schedule). Its on ABC by the way =]

Goodness, I'd love to read this book!

I'd say Hellcats, on the CW. I was curious to see how Disney veteran Ashley Tisdale would do on a new network, and I've loved everything Alyson Michalka has done. It's good so far, but I haven't been able to watch much because my TV connection is questionable at best.

I love Lauren's ten words or less description. That alone can pull someone in.

Would you believe me if I said I have NO CLUE what do show is on?

I have to ITunes Vamp Diaries b/c Direct TV in my area doesn't get the CW. I just bought the rest of the seasons for Smallville on DVD since I've missed the past 4 years due to not getting the channel. (I love both of these shows.) I am hearing great things about the new CW show Nikita and there is one other.

I do have to say when I have a chance I love to watch Bones- the chemistry between Bones and Seeley is EPIC. The way their characters interact and feed off of each other is awesome, especially when you throw in their colleagues. But that is an older show.

Also I'll catch Modern Family when I get a chance. I love the whole dynamic of the show and it is absolutely hysterical! They are on their second season I believe.

Good interview, and sounds like a terrific book!

OK, I am biased because I review this show on series.nu, but I do believe "Raising Hope" is a good show. It's got a lot of heart, warmth, and the family is funny. Cloris Leachman is priceless as Maw Maw. Every Tuesday 9/10ET, on FOX. :)

I don't watch a whole lot of new TV shows. The newest show is probably GLEE or Pretty Little Liars (which is recently being advertised for showing on Aussie TV :)) . . .

What a fun interview. :) Thanks for the giveaway & internationalism!

I love the cover! and im so excited to read this book!I would recommend for you to watch Outlaw on nbc and Nikita on the CW. Nikita is a great show, this girl is trying to bring down a big secret group that trains delinquents to go on co- op misions and be killers. Its so cool, and she does all her fighting and spy missions ina killer cute outfit. Maggie Q is so cool, and she defines Girl power!!

Have fun watching tv, I watch too much already! Thanks a ton for this giveaway!

I only have one new show so far this season (No Ordinary Family) and so far I'm into it. I like the whole balancing life with super powers thing. Plus, I like Julie Benz (Darla from Buffy and Angel; Rita from Dexter) and I think it's amazing that Michael Chiklis is still playing a cop (when I was a kid I watched him on the Commish playing dad/cop and he's still playing that character but now he's a bit tougher and has no hair). The kid half of the family needs a little more action/attention on the show, but I'm hoping that will come with time.

Lonestar is awesome. That actor has charisma... he just really encompasses the character. Plus its a really different story, one that I haven't seen done on TV before... I'm curious to see how long they will be able to pull off the story they've got going on... you'll have to watch to find out-- it's good! really good! =)

Great interview! I really like the cover for Her and Me and You... it's really fitting and definitely makes me think of the upcoming winter!

As for new T.V. shows, I don't really get to watch it that often anymore but I've watched the first few episodes of the new cheerleader one, Hellcats, and it's kind of like the usual drama but still fun (plus I like seeing all the moves involved in the cheers). I also checked out the first episode of No Ordinary Family and it looked cool! A whole family gaining powers all of a sudden... definitely sparks my interest for more!
